TUN Desert Cobras Triumph

Tharaka University Taekwondo Team, proudly known as the Desert Cobras, delivered an outstanding performance at the KUSF National Play-Offs A held at Kabarak University, scooping an impressive six medals and once again proving their dominance on the national stage.
In the men’s category, two out of four athletes secured bronze medals. The Desert Cobras Ladies team equally shone, with two athletes winning Silver medals in the Fin and Feather categories, while two others claimed Bronze medals in the Flyweight and Heavyweight divisions
Silver medalist Victory Chelangat narrowly missed gold in a thrilling final after an electrifying semifinal performance that kept the entire audience on their feet. In the Fin weight category, Annstacy Mutheu displayed exceptional skill in the preliminaries before narrowly losing in the finals.
Men’s Fin weight medalist and Masters of Educational Communication and Technology student, Mr. Dennis Mambo, a pioneer of the Desert Cobras, applauded the team’s resilience and the unwavering support of their coach. He noted that with enhanced systems such as electronic scoring, the team could achieve even greater milestones. “We are getting back to our routine workouts and preparing for more competitions. The pressure from Coach is worth it,” he affirmed.
Under the mentorship of Coach Mr. Douglas Mwiti, the Desert Cobras have consistently secured medals and trophies in university games, federation-based national championships, and international competitions.
“As the Desert Cobras Taekwondo Team, we’re going global, building a legacy through martial excellence,” said Coach Mwiti, congratulating the team for their discipline and four years of consistent excellence. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to defending their titles, enhancing professionalism, and nurturing resourceful athletes.
