Tharaka University today held a historical event, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Distinguished Professor Emeritus Ratemo W. Michieka who formally assumed his role as the first Chancellor since the University achieved the status of a fully-fledged University back in 2022.
The University fraternity and the community welcomed the Chancellor with open arms as this marks the completion of the last piece of the puzzle in the University’s Structure.
Gracing the event were: CS Education, PS State Department of Mining, Tharaka University Council led by Prof. Timothy Kiruhi, the Political Class led by Area MPs of Tharaka Constituency, Hon. George Murugara and Chuka-Igambang’ombe Hon. Patrick Munene and Women Rep. Hon. Susan Ngugi, close family and friends of the TUN Chancellor.
The occasion brought together a high-level delegation of dignitaries including the Njuri Ncheke, CEOs of State Organs led by CEO, KENIA –
Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa, CEO NRF – Professor Dickson Andala, CEO NACOSTI – Prof. Walter Oyawa, the Country Director Rockefeller Foundation. The delegation also included Chancellor Kenyatta University, Amb. Francis Muthaura, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, Former VC Chuka University, Prof. Erastus Njoka, VCs and managers of Public Universities led by Prof. Daniel Mugendi, VC Embu University amongst many distinguished guests who showered Prof. Michieka with congratulations and messages of goodwill and support.
he Chancellor promised to work closely with the University while challenging the management to ensure they stick and work towards promoting Dryland Agriculture and Mining for the growth of Tharaka Nithi county. The PS State Department of Mining echoed the Chancellor’s message and promised that the ministry will help TUN establish a Center of Excellence in Mining.
