Tharaka University proves its reputation as Hub of Innovation and Excellence!

At the 10th edition of the Continental Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Tharaka University bagged the prestigious Best Innovation in Service Delivery Award for the Poultry MeloVax project — a transformative solution designed to enhance livestock resilience and food security in Africa. The event was themed, “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps.”

This recognition marks a proud moment for the University and Kenya, emerging as one of the top-performing countries at this Continental Gathering of Public Service Institutions and Innovators.

The Poultry MeloVax project, developed at Tharaka University, reflects the institution’s steadfast commitment to offering sustainable, research-driven solutions to real-world challenges. It is a homegrown innovation combining science, public service, and community impact — the excellence the APSD platform seeks to highlight.

The award follows closely on the heels of a national-level victory. The same project clinched first place in the Agility and Resilience category during the 2025 Kenya National celebration at KICC in Nairobi from June 10 to 12, organized by the Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development.

During the awards ceremony in Addis Ababa, Kenya’s vibrant and impactful presence was further underscored as the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) was named the first runner-up in the Most Accountable and Transparent Organisation category, while the Kenya Exhibition Stand earned the second runner-up award in the Best Pavilion category.

In her remarks, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development and leader of Kenya’s delegation, celebrated the country’s success:

“The recognition we have received as a Country is not just about winning. It’s about reaffirming Kenya’s resolve to innovate, adapt, and deliver services that truly respond to the needs of our citizens.”

Tharaka University remains committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation, empowering communities, and contributing meaningfully to the national and continental development agenda.

Congratulations to the brilliant minds behind Poultry MeloVax and to every stakeholder who continues to believe in Tharaka University’s vision of excellence and service.
